Mediation

Mediation, a form of alternative dispute resolution (ADR), aims to allow two (or more) disputants to reach a mutually agreed settlement to a dispute – rather than accepting something imposed by a third party. Mediators use appropriate techniques and/or skills to open and/or improve dialogue between disputants, aiming to help the parties reach an agreement (with concrete effects) on the disputed matter. Restorative mediation brings into the process the principles and values of RJ. While subscribing to the basic format of mediation, restorative mediation aims to bring in more than just the disputing parties to a session. It engages others who will be affected by the agreement to give inputs either during or before the session. It is a more embracing way of managing disputes.
